What does GOTS-certified mean?

GOTS stands for the Global Organic Textile Standard.

It is a globally recognised standard for organic textiles that covers more than the fibre itself.

GOTS sets requirements for the processing and manufacturing of certified textiles, including:

This means that GOTS certification looks at the journey of a textile — not simply the finished piece.

GOTS-certified products use certified organic fibres according to the requirements of the standard.

Organic fibres are grown according to defined organic farming criteria, without the use of prohibited pesticides and fertilisers.

For us, this is particularly meaningful for lingerie and nightwear, because these are pieces worn directly against the skin.

A natural or organic fibre is only part of the story.

The way a textile is processed also matters.

GOTS includes requirements for chemical inputs used during textile processing, as well as environmental practices such as wastewater treatment.

This creates standards not only for what the textile is, but also for how it becomes the finished product.

GOTS-certified textiles are subject to requirements for traceability throughout the certified supply chain.

This helps ensure that certified materials can be followed through the different stages of processing and production.

Certification is carried out through the GOTS certification system and its approved certification bodies.

GOTS also includes social criteria for certified operations.
